Meet Our Instructors!

Jim Quinlan

Acting, Theatre, Improv, Storytelling

Jim Quinlan, CHT, SHRM-SCP has always loved stories.

His earliest memories are of his dad recording bedtimes stories for little Jimmy to listen to when Dad was out of town on business. Having learned early how connected the human spirit becomes to a story, Jim set out to incorporate story telling in his professional life.

With over 20 years in the hospitality industry, you can imagine that his book of stories has grown quite large. Spending a year working for the Walt Disney Company early in his career confirmed for Jim that stories are universal. With each story comes new knowledge and truth for those who hear them. Jim has worked directly and and served as a consultant for major brands including Ruby Tuesday, Smokey Bones, Hilton, Sonic Drive-In, Tilted Kilt, Foxwoods, Subway and Papa Gino’s.

Jim earned his BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Richmond and has performed in theaters across the country including Theatre IV, SAK Comedy Lab and Sitcom Boston.

Jim is the owner and President of Something New as well as a corporate workshop and keynote speaker.

Jim delivers always engaging presentations, keynotes and workshops that challenge participants to push themselves further than they are comfortable going. Topics include: Leadership, Humor in the Workplace, Guest Service, Improvisation and more.

Lindsey Harris

Visual Arts, Painting

To say that Lindsey Harris has lived a "colorful" life would be an understatement!

Between her three kids, multiple animals and career as a high school fine arts teacher she certainly has figured out how to use EVERY crayon in the box.

A graduate of Flagler College with a degree in Fine Arts and Graphic Design, Lindsey has spent the past five years instilling her passion in others teaching high school fine arts in Lake County FL.

Having recently put her career on hold to spend more time with her kids, Lindsey is excited to again be teaching her passion to the Something New Universe.

On a side note, Lindsey won a Graduation Sidewalk Chalk contest at Flagler!  A feat which is no doubt serving her well in today's world of social distancing!

Donna MacDonald

Dance, Fitness, Firefighting

Donna MacDonald, a RI native, started dancing at a very young age, fell in love with it and continued that passion her whole life.

She graduated from Dean College as a dance major and  is also a member of the Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston.

She started working straight out of college with Current Dance Company of Massachusetts, performing ballet and contemporary dance. After 3 years, she ventured to New York City landing a job with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus as a dancer. She performed with them for the next 4 years all over the country. Not only did she perform many genres of dance, but participated in many PR events, backstage tours, handled an elephant and other animals in the pre-show and during animal walk, and helped to set up electric and lighting for ring 3.

She returned to RI, took an EMT course, which in turn lead her to test for the Providence Fire Department. She was a part of the departments Honor Guard, Peer Fitness Program, Critical Stress Debriefing Team and Firefighter Combat Challenge Team. She was a firefighter for fifteen years, until occupational bone cancer forced her to retire. She found the Firefighter Cancer support Network, was the RI State Director, Vice President East and is now the Chairman of Female Firefighters with Cancer, working on research for women firefighters, teaching and speaking all around the country.

During those fifteen years, she danced professionally with Fountain Street Creative, performing all over New England on her days off from the fire department. She was also in a Burlesque and Belly dance troupe performing around RI.

She now resides in Vero Beach, FL, where she is a personal trainer, dance instructor, and of course continues to perform with a cancer survivor troupe.
