After School Drama Club

Production: Clue!

In Person Program

Ages 8-16

Thursday, 4:30-6:30pm

 Saturday, 10am - Noon

With many school and local drama programs closed, Something New has your budding young thespian covered!

Our after school drama club puts the small group of students (limit 10) in charge of bringing together a theatrical production over the course of the program culminating with a production for friends and family.

Production selection will be based on number of participants; but will be a full length stage or dinner theatre production.  This will be a scripted straight play, not a musical, and will be age appropriate for the group.

In addition to a simple performance, participants will dive deep into their characters and the craft of acting.  Participants will learn to make strong choices on stage that bring their characters to life as well as what it means to build a true ensemble production.

Participants interested can also explore directing portions of the production.

Silver Stars

In Person Program

10am - 11:30am

Ages 55+

We believe that age is just a number and that actors transcend age to bring countless characters to life!

The truth is that even if you have never stepped on a stage before it  is never too late to take up acting or even dream of achieving your big break!  Many Hollywood heavy hitters did not start their career until later in life!

Your dreams of celebrity aside, acting classes for seniors have incredible health benefits.  According to the National Institute on Aging, acting is beneficial for seniors by improving cognition and social engagement. Acting helps people express their emotions, does not require previous training, and increases social interactions. It is the perfect way for seniors to be social and get involved in their community, while stimulating their brain in the process.

This program, designed specifically for those ages 55+ gives a safe space to explore the dramatic arts.  Movement, vocal technique, characterization and storytelling are the focuses explored through scene study, monologue work, theatre games and performance.

This is a small group class which culminates in a showcase performance for friends and family on the big stage.

Improv for All!

In Person Program

1pm - 2:30pm

Ages 6-99

All ages are welcome to explore the world of improvisation.

Learn the power of "Yes And" in improv and in life while developing self confidence, performance skills and family bonds all while laughing your heads off.

The objectives of this course are to discover the fundamentals of improvisational comedy, improve your storytelling skills, learn techniques to think quickly on your feet and to be more creative. Through coaching,  exercises, creative performance games and basic short-form scene-work, you will learn how to be more spontaneous, trusting and cooperative and how to listen in a fun, creative atmosphere. Participants will spend each week learning and practicing short form improv games such as those seen on TV's Who's Line is it Anyway and end the program with a showcase for friends and family.

Art is Anywhere!

In Person OR Virtual - Your Choice

Our program is designed for budding young artists to explore expressing themselves creatively in an exciting variety of media. As they build their skills in our small group classes they will learn how to use a variety of art materials in new and different ways!

During each class session, our teaching-artists guide participants through various mediums, such as: acrylic painting, drawing, mixed media, mosaics, tie-dye, bead work, watercolor, and more!

Each day is filled with fun, engaging projects and allows time for 1-2 projects per week.

Students may choose to join us in studio for live class or attend via Zoom.  If the virtual option is chosen, we will deliver supplies to your porch or you can pick them up at the Studio.

Small Group Voice Training

In Person Program

Ages 9 - adult

Something New's small group voice lessons are where young singers and aspiring vocalists go to learn the fundamentals of singing like breathing, posture and diction. These basic principles are key to strong vocal performances. Our expert voice teacher helps guide beginner singers through the early stages of vocal progression, assisting with pitch training, developing timbre and keeping steady tempo. Unlike most singing lessons, when students enroll in our programs, they can expect both 1:1 guidance and group practice as musicians rarely perform in their own bubble.

For the theatrically inclined, participants will be challenged to explore a variety of singing styles and identify how those styles best fit into their audition repertoire.

My daughter has learned so much at Something New Studio and accomplished more than I could have imagined!  Jim and his team have stretched these kids imaginations further than I had thought possible.  It's great to see their finished product and know that they 100% created it from nothing.

Kylie loved the weekly paint classes.  Lindsey does an amazing job of making sure that each child is proud of their work and happy with the results!  To top it off it is actually fun for the kids!
