My First Drama Club

Running April 20 - June 1

After many requests we are excited to announce MY FIRST DRAMA CLUB! This special club is for children ages 4-6 only with no theatrical experience to allow them to try SOMETHING NEW! My First Drama Club is a great introduction to the wonderful world of theater! We will learn exciting dramatic skills all while having fun and playing games. It's our desire to see children comfortable with communication-- a critical skill in everyone's development. There is no large group performance for this 7 week introductory club; but, the club will set these students up for success for our Summer Performance Camp should they choose to join.

After School Drama Club

Running January - April

The Something New Drama Club is not your everyday "pay to play" children's production where you pay hundreds of dollars for your child to take a role as "tree #4!  Our program focuses on developing the skills of the actor and exposing kids to all aspects of a theatrical production.  This boutique style drama club is limited in number of participants and all shows presented are truly ensemble shows where your child will shine in the spotlight.  While our shows are smaller in scale than many other programs out there, the experience that your child will have is second to none; and, the theatrical skills that they will develop are not found in other programs!

Our shows are all intimate plays, not musicals that focus on truly diving into the characters, settings, time periods and relationships shown on the stage.    The material and instruction challenges young actors to work to develop their craft.  Through theatrical games, exercises, research and rehearsal participants learn both basic and advance acting technique all disguised as sessions of fun!

Levels are grouped by experience rather than age, so we ensure that your child is participating with others at their same level.  All sessions culminate with a production for friends and family.

Level 1 Drama Club

Production: One Act Plays

In Person Program

Ages 7-16

Wednesday, 4:00-6:00pm

 Saturday, 1pm - 3pm

Limit 10 Participante

Geared toward the student who has had limited experience on stage, this program teaches all of the basics of a theatrical production.  While the program focuses on acting, students will gain experience in all aspects of theatre, both on stage and off as they act, build simple sets, design costumes and even market their show.  Acting instruction gives a solid understanding of what it means to be an actor and bring a character to life as we learn there is a difference between acting and simply pretending.  Technical aspects of performance will also be a focus including stage movement, characterization, projection, memorization and other theatre FUNdamentals.

Final performance will be a showcase of short one act plays, scenes and monologs selected by the students.

Level 2 Drama Club

Production: The Importance of Being Earnest

In Person Program

Ages 7-16

Thursday, 4:00-6:00pm

 Saturday, 10am - Noon

Limit 4M - 4F

For the student who has had some experience on stage and understands the basics, this program offers a deeper dive into more challenging roles that your young thespian may not take on elsewhere!  In this session, young actors are challenged to push themselves as artists.

We will explore Stanislavski and Meisner's acting techniques and begin to utilize them in our craft to give reason to what we do on stage.  In addition, students will begin to look at a production from a directors eye and understand how and why choices are made in a production.

Our production will be an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest - considered by many to be the wittiest English comedy ever written!  This shortened version remains true to the story of Algernon and Jack as they lead their secret lives in hopes of avoiding their stuffy Victorian era social obligations while hilarity ensues.

What does the Something New Drama Club look like?

Fun, friends, learning and creating!

What our customers are saying

My daughter has learned so much at Something New Studio and accomplished more than I could have imagined!  Jim and his team have stretched these kids imaginations further than I had thought possible.  It's great to see their finished product and know that they 100% created it from nothing.

Mike, Mt. Dora

Kylie loved the weekly paint classes.  Lindsey does an amazing job of making sure that each child is proud of their work and happy with the results!  To top it off it is actually fun for the kids!
